Mary Blair Typeface & Poster
An exploration in creating letterforms, the Mary Blair typeface pays homage to a brilliantly talented woman.

The letterforms are designed as a display face, created to be whimsical and reminiscent of blackletter/storybook lettering. The typeface uses a wide aperture and counter in order to provide a balanced weight to the thick strokes of positive space. In the uppercase, the thinner strokes stretch and bend, anthropomorphising the letters into silly characters.
 Process
The typeface's whimsical geometry and line were inspired by the illustrative work of Mary Blair. Blair (*ahem* another San José State alum) was notable for her work on Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and It's a Small World. Blair drew inspiration from her trips to Latin America where she was inspired by the colors and forms of the topography.
